Daniel Tanner founded Skylight High Explosives Corporation in '91 while running one of his Class 2/ Class 3 retail firearm stores. Originally he became licensed as a dealer in bulk black powder (classified as a low explosive) to fulfill the needs of the muzzle loading clientele, then soon realized that there was a need for a variety of explosives products, everything from special FX for the movie industry to commercial blasting powder for contractors. Since the Licensed dealers in his area only sold to big business, Tanner found a market which had a need to be filled, thus the start of Skylight Company, a side business apart from his retail establishments.

After getting established, Daniel started directing his attention to community involvement. He has done charity work for many organizations and gives financial support to causes, which he feels are very important to our society. Such organizations include, but are not limited to the Boy Scouts of America, The First Nights of Eugene (a Eugene Oregon group dedicated to family oriented, non alcoholic activities such as their annual New Years Eve fireworks show, which Daniel has done since '96), Life Gate Christian Schools, many Library Groups, local Rural Fire and Rescue departments and other valuable resources to the community. He feels that offering a strong moral background for children is one of the most important things that adults can do to ensure a stable and compassionate society.

On the business end, during the week, customer service is the most important part of Skylight Company. Daniel takes part in every aspect of the factory to ensure that everything is run according to company policy, from manufacture to packaging. He is studious, and as a member of the International Society of Explosives Engineers (I.S.E.E.), and as an agent for the Explosive Safety Commission, he conducts studies on various subjects regarding the safety of certain explosives activities and seldom studied subjects such as the danger of static electricity, friction, stability of aged explosives, disposal of unsafe or illegal explosives, and many other important parts of his sometimes misunderstood occupation.
